With the photographic project Aqua, Vanessa Ferrauto, visual artist from Turin, is back with a conversation between nature and the unconscious. Her pictures portray a vegetation suspended in time and space, where everything is at the same time perfectly still and perfectly alive. A place where water and sky merge, creating an imaginary underwater world where one dives into so they can observe closely the souls and creatures hidden amongst the branches and leaves.

The sky/water effect is obtained by photographing the trees and bushes under determinate climate conditions, when the clear sky assumes all the shades of blue and green. This way, the resulting picture is credible without the need for special effects in post-production. Moreover, the creation of a marine and lacustrine setting is suggested by the white frame, inspired by boats’ portholes.

Through the technique of mirroring inspired by Rorschach’s inkblot test, the artist suggests the observer to uncover different shapes and creatures in order to develop a personal and suggestive vision of her work.
